I quite like the idea of the Trannies!

Well done, Footstompin, it was a thoroughly wonderful evening and we really enjoyed it. Congratulations to all the nominees, and very well done to the winners.

Too many highlights to mention but I'll just commend the courage and dignity of Jock and Frances Duncan. They are proud of Gordon's musical legacy and I know how much they and the rest of the family appreciated that incredible tribute but it took real strength for them to sit through it.

Congratulations to all.

On a different note, however, has Donnie Munro been ill? He's not _that_ much my senior, but he appears positively haggard in all the photos I've seen of him recently...the dark circles under his eyes seem to be getting worse in each picture...he looks like he hasn't had a good night's sleep for weeks.

an e.mail from The McCalmans..

Dear All

We're delighted to announce that The McCalmans last night received the "Live Act of the Year" Award at the 2006 Scots Trad Music Awards in Fort William.
Thanks so much to all who voted for us. It's particularly gratifying to get an award, after 41 years on the road, that acknowledges the band for what they're doing right now.
Thanks to Hands Up For Trad for Organising the Event,to Greentrax for sponsoring that particular award and to BBC Radio Scotland for all its support both for the Awards themselves and for Folk and Trad Music in Scotland the year round.

We'd also like to thank our Mothers, Significant Others, Therapists , Personal Trainers and the makers of "Senior-i-vite" Vitamin and Mineral Suppliments for the Mature Man.

(collapse sobbing)

Many Thanks again

all best wishes

Ian, Stephen and Nick

Woah! Greentrax sponsored the award The Macs won?

Don't The Macs record on Greentrax?

Your point being, I take it, that somehow Greentrax influenced the result of the vote? Give it a rest.

Get Real! Every company does it, it's called 'creative marketing'

Martin Hadden of Birnam CD made some very funny remarks about the fact that none of the nominees for the Album of the Year Award that he sponsors got their CDs done at his company!

Whatever anyone thinks, there are some fabulous winners there, and I'm pretty certain that some of the runners up are perfectly relaxed about the results!

I was as free to vote for those nominees as anyone else you could care to name. 70,000 people voted, which was a cracking figure, let's hope for an even higher profile and even bigger public vote next year.

Well done to everyone who won, and well done to Simon and the Hands Up team for great event organisation. It really was first class.

The place looked great, the music on stage was fantastic, the introductions were informative, and the Gaelic content was certainly not just a translation of the English introduction, or vice versa. I think the whole night was a credit to traditional music.

As to 'fixing' votes, that is just a pile of complete and utter bile.

Macmeanmna sponored Gaelic Singer of the Year and none of 'our' singers were nominated, never mind won the award. We are delighted with whomever wins, and I couldn't give a jot whether s/he is a Macmeanmna artist, or not. That's hardly creative marketing, Boula!

Was I talking to you last night?

Adding my thanks to Simon and the whole team who made last night's event so enjoyable. The decision to move to Fort William was not greeted with a lot of enthusiasm from those in the Central belt when announced last year, but it was all the better for it. Definitely worth the long drive, which is best described as "Come hell or high water" (we had both!
Oh, and having just read the 3 pages of comments on the other thread on this topic, Robbie Shepherd did a LIVE broadcast from Fort William of the "Reel Blend" this afternoon at 1pm, on which I think all the winners were mentioned, and a fair few of them were interviewed. We listened to it on the car radio on the way back. He was among several who mentioned the need to get the awards ceremony televised, but no doubt the snipers would continue to snipe even if this did happen next year.

"We are delighted with whomever wins, and I couldn't give a jot whether s/he is a Macmeanmna artist, or not."

Come on Arthur! how can you truly expect anyone to believe that statement?
Anyway well done with the Community Project of the Year: Feisean nan Gaidheal. ........
100% worthy.

My final grievance on these matters:… why did the SDM recording feature an east coast style band, while in the Bar afterwards there was a cracking highland band?

How can a director of a company not give a jot if his clients won or not? I am tempted to say he should not be a director if he feels that way.

This is not the case here however as anyone from the highlands knows Mr Cormac is a hard working and highly respected individual.
