First organised in 1999, the Linlithgow event has become firmly established on the UK Folk scene and attracts visitors from all over the country. The Festival has a fine tradition of nurturing emerging talent and this year's main concert in the Academy Theatre on September 8th will feature the award -winning young singer/songwriter KARINE POLWART with her band of equally talented musicians. The Burgh Halls at the historic Linlithgow Cross will again be acting as the Festival Hub. The Festival Lecture on Thursday September 6th in the Black Bitch Tavern will launch the weekend's activities and this year local historian and thespian, Dr Peter Anderson, will give an insight into "Dramatic Linlithgow - medieval and modern. |

Posted: 27-Aug-2007 14:59 I am really looking forward to the Linlithgow Festival this year and hope it is blessed with the wonderful weather it enjoyed last year. I am intrigued by the Open Air Ceilidh in the town centre! does this mean that people will be dancing three times around the Cross Well, like they do at the Riding of the Marches? It should be a hoot! |

For non-ticket enquiries about matters to do with the festival, please use the contacts on the web page. |

Posted: 28-Aug-2007 19:15 No festival campsite, I'm afraid. Two main options for campers - Loch House Farm Caravan Park on the Bo'ness Road, and Beecraigs Caravan & Camping Site in the Beecraigs Country Park. The first is in the town, and easily accessible by foot. The second is about 2 miles up in the hills! Not a good walk after a late night session, but a lovely place to camp. Links to both here - http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/Home/tourism_lifestyle/accommodation/camping/ Does this mean you're bringing your tent this year, Willie? |

Posted: 30-Aug-2007 11:00 The late night rail services are not too bad if you are within reasonable distance of a railway station. Last Saturday night trains from Lithgae - http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/content/timetables/index.php |

Posted: 30-Aug-2007 12:31 It would be good if some of the sessions could be organised near to the station. That way, we wouldn't have the mad das along the street for the last train. some of us are no longer in the first flush of youth, ye ken! |

Posted: 31-Aug-2007 13:26 Och away you go! Musicians are ALWAYS taken into account as apposed to singers! Its harder for us to find a session then is for you guys - hence why Im asking!!! |

Posted: 31-Aug-2007 14:57 Actually, the best sessions for both singers and musicians can be found within The Black Bitch and West Port where there has been no attempt made to "organise them" !! That's how it should be too. |

Posted: 31-Aug-2007 16:25 Aye, there have been some lovely sessions in the West Port Hotel in recent years. Is anybody who took part in them intending going along this year? I know people came from all over the country. |

Posted: 01-Sep-2007 12:17 Glad to hear you're coming to the festival, Lordy. If you can get down on the Friday night, there is a singers' session upstairs in the Black Bitch from 8 pm. On Saturday morning, Sangschule is hosting a Come and Sing event with a theme of Chorus Songs in the Festival Hub at the Burgh Halls from 11 - 12.30. This is informal, open to all, individuals or groups - a chance to sing and share some great songs. If you and your group can come, we would be glad if you could join us with some of your songs. Members of some Edinburgh groups will be coming too. Looking forward to catching up with you. |

Posted: 01-Sep-2007 17:28 Worth mentioning that both the Friday evening session and the Saturday morning are free. There is also a song workshop with Anne Neilson in the afternoon from 2-4pm which is £4 (£3 concessions) - book through Box Office at 01506 433634. Then there's the Sunday morning Bluegrass Gospel session, also free, 11.00.-12.30. in the Burgh Halls. So plenty for singers. Pub sessions on the whole tend to be mixed, alternating between tunes and songs. |

Posted: 01-Sep-2007 20:30 What about moothie and whistle players? Will we be welcome? I have no doubt we will be, given that Linlithgow's motto is "ST MICHAEL IS KIND TO STRANGERS". |
