Very nice clip.
Just caught part of "Global gathering " on the way home tonight - Michael Marra in usual fine form, then, on ITV 1, what must surely be ITV's answer to the "Transatlantic Sessions" - Comhdhail Colm Cille, including Mary-Ann herself and Muirean ?? from Danu - oh and a pretty good concertina player

Well it's not all bad....I see we've got a weeks reprieve.
I wonder if there's anyone with the stamina to watch the whole series without falling asleep?

The last show was the most bland so far.
I used to think the "musical directors" were idiots, but I have to admit there is some fiendish cunning involved in making Iris Dement sound like Mrs Mills.
High spot of the night should have been Cara Dillon singing the "Streets of Derry", instead we got a pantomime of beauty and the beast.

The only bit of excitement came from Fred and his exhuberant piping....and strangely no direction seemed to be required.

"Comhdhail Colm Cille" tonight seemed to be an offshoot of the "Highland Sessions" of two years ago. None the worse for that either. Excellent stuff.

"Comhdhail Colm Cille" turned out to be a fully gaelic Highland Sessions - complete with English subtitles - rather spoiled the visuals.

So there should be another 4 episodes - well worth watching if you missed the original showing. You'll find quite a few in YouTube if you search for Highland Sessions"

Well that’s it all over – series 3 DVDs due out next week with a “best of” DVDs for first two series probably out next year (according to Mike Alexander – Pelicula).
If you want more – check out bonus tracks here - (http://www.rte.ie/tv/transatlanticsessions/bonustracks.html)

As to last night’s session – well I think they kept some of the best to last. Great instrumentals. Eddi Reader was superb and Darrell’s cover of Stuart Adamson’s “Shattered Cross” with Ronan blasting away on the uilleann pipes was perfection and a great tribute to the bagpipe-soundalike guitarist.

Might not have been the gold standard of first series bit there were still quite a few nuggets throughout - so thanks to Aly Bain and the world’s best dobro player Jerrry Douglas.

Tom Tennant said "Might not have been the gold standard of first series"

I'll preface this by saying that I watched all of series three and enjoyed it. However, series three, even more than series two, interspersed the music with assorted clips of the musicians talking. Series one just showed the music and was, on the whole, the better for it, at least for me.

I think the format is getting a bit tired too - Unlike many here I didn't take to the similar Highland Sessions at all - I found it all just a bit too smug and over-produced. Transatlantic Sessions 3, while not smug, did vere towards overproduced,

Ian

Listening to "Ay Waukin, Oh" I was trying to remember where I'd heard that 'scottish words, american accent' style before. Then it came to me: Fran and Anna.

Is it true Eddi Reader's wee sister was born the day Elvis died? Spooky or what?
