Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2006 (DVD)

by Edinburgh Military Tattoo

PLEASE NOTE that this DVD is dual format and should be playable on any machine supporting either PAL or NTSC format. Worldwide DVD suitable for all.

Filmed live at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo this DVD features the complete 2006 Tattoo including footage not shown on the TV broadcast.

The 2006 Tattoo features more than 1,000 performers from across the globe, including groups from Chile, China, New Zealand, Nepal, Uganda and Switzerland. All of the traditional elements feature in this 2006 extravaganza, with the march across the drawbridge of Edinburgh Castle by the Massed Pipes & Drums this year boasting the biggest pipe band ever to appear at the event.

The huge, crowd-pleasing light projections upon the Castle walls - introduced for the first time in last year's Tattoo - also make a return, emphasising the 'tribute to the Scottish Soldier' theme in 2006. That theme is also echoed in the UK premiere of a specially composed Fanfare entitled The Gathering, written and directed by Major Graham Jones of The Regimental Band of The Coldstream Guards, which opens proceedings for the 2006 run.

Audiences can also look forward to musical renditions of Scots Wha Hae and Wi A Hundred Pipers, an energetic fusion of contemporary gospel and traditional African rhythm from the 40-strong Watoto Children’s Choir of Kampala and the Top Secret Drum Corps from the Swiss city of Basel, returning after their first, successful performance in 2003.

Other highlights include a performance of Kung Fu by 60-young Chinese students from Jiangxi Xishan International School and the Concert Band of the Army of Chile together with the Evendart Artistic Company and representatives from the Chilean National Ballet, marking the first time performers from South America have been represented in the Tattoo's 57-year history. The traditional fireworks, fly-bys and the moving Lone Piper finale all once again return in 2006.
