Monthly news summary of all the happenings and up and coming events in the Scottish Traditional Music scene.
The Immortal Memory - A Tribute to Robert Burns featuring Scots actor Duncan Macrae with Kenneth McKellar, Ian Wallace, Peter Mallan, Alistair McHarg, Stuart Gordon singing Burns' most famous songs....and there's a set from Jimmy Shand and his band. With the string arrangement by Ron Goodwin this is a real cracker of an album! The CD is made from an LP originally released in1959 that celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Scotland's national poet. It is a real treat to hear again all those wonderful voices. A special mention for the lushest, best-ever version of "Gae Bring Tae Me A Pint O Wine" featuring the bass-baritone voice of Ian Wallace.
This CD has been produced from a record made over fifty years ago. There may be a few slight imperfections associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the music still shines through.
|Title:||A MUST For Burns' Fans|
|Review:||Bought the original LP in a charity shop some years' ago. It quickly became one of my favourites, the way it tells the story of Robert Burns in music and Burns' poems. Great to see it rerleased on CD, it is a MUST buy for all fans of Burns and Scottish music. And at the price, it is a steal !|
