Tam Reid - Behind The Bothy Door Volume 2: Tam was a fine exponent of the bothy song and volume two 'Behind the Bothy Door' along with Volume One contain many of those he was so well-known for. They are a real treat for all who love the north east dialect and tradition. In north-east Scotland, bothy ballads were songs of the old "farm touns", where, in the 19th to early 20th centuries, hired farm labourers were boarded out in so-called bothy-houses. As a means of coping with their harsh living conditions, they composed songs about their lives and, during their limited free time at the bothies, at the "hairst supper" or at hiring fairs, they got together for sing-songs. With15 tracks on each, these CD give an excellent insight into the genre and a chance to enjoy some of the repertoire of the 'King of the Bothy Singers'
