John McCusker is a talented chap, playing not only fiddle but also keyboards, cittern, accordion and whistles. Touring the world with the Battlefield Band his playing style has picked up various musical influences. There are several self-penned tunes including the lovely "Brigid's Waltz" written for his mother and "Air for Jakes" a collective name for his close friends the Rusby family. On this CD he has the support of some sterling musicians like Ian Carr, Simon Thoumire and Simon Thorpe as well as comrades from the Battlefield Band, Alan Reid and Iain MacDonald.

Review:
a musician of considerable maturity, his playing has a delightful lilt on waltzes and slow airs, and a steely percussiveness on reels.
This album takes in everything from wistful pieces to jigs and reels which would rouse the dead.
