Ian Bruce - Rhythm & Burns: Ian brings Scotland's national bard Robert Burns up to date with a variety of backing styles and new arrangements by Ian Bruce and Dr Fred Freeman. Here we have a wholly fresh sound: the lightness of jigs and slip jigs (The Tailor, Robin Shure in Hairst) : the mouth music of Comin Thro The Rye and Duncan Gray (extended to African vocal noises in the latter): the jazzy walking bass settings for Charlie Is My Darling and Rattlin Roarin Willie: the delicacy of It Was A' For Our Rightfu King (with the clock-like dulcimer accompaniment ticking throughout) : the rhythmical textures of Hughie Graham or Wha Will Buy My Troggan - a fresh look at our national bard.
Ian Bruce (vocals, guitar, percussion, keyboard) with Stevie Lawrence (slide guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, Appalachian dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, bodhran), Chris Agnew (bass, vocals), Richard Werner (percussion) and Chris Wright (tabla).
