Monthly news summary of all the happenings and up and coming events in the Scottish Traditional Music scene.
Fred's natural flair and immaculate technique, along with his sincere approach, combine to create a unique and rousing performance. His playing has been described as 'almost shocking in its subtlety and brilliance'. The Scotsman. On 'The Sound of the Sun', many of the compositions are his own. He combines poignant slow airs with a strong emphasis on the old Hebridean stepdance style.
"Strathspey's and reels in Fred's step dance style burst with energy drive and enthusiasm. This is music to boogie to, not to analyse. Strathspeys such as Munlochly Bridge and Bogan Lochan and Reels such as The Grey Bob and The Smith of Chilliechassie are delivered in a powerful rhythmic style which climax in a glorious fusion of flying fingers and driving rhythm. This is no better illustrated than on track seven which ends with a quite awesome rendition of G.S. MacLennan's Alick C MacGregor."........... from a review by Chris macKenzie in The Living Tradition
