Monthly news summary of all the happenings and up and coming events in the Scottish Traditional Music scene.
This Cd features 15 traditional songs from north east Scotland which have been recorded exclusively for this album. Each song is performed as an unaccompanied solo by one of the five singers. There is a unique string that binds the five together. All were born and raised in the north east farming community. All learned to sing in the rich cultural environment of the fairm toons. All are in demand to appear in concerts and festivals in Scotland, Europe and occasionally, even further afield. In north east Scotland they are known simply as "The Big Five".
The Big Five are:
Joe Aitken: from Kirriemuir in Angus
Gordon Easton: from Tyrie near Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire
Jock Duncan originally from New Deer but now retired to Pitlochry in Perthshire
Tam Reid: from Cullerlie, near Echt in Aberdeenshire
Eric Simpson: once of Rosehearty but now retired to Mosstodloch in Moray
