The project was inspired partly by the comprehensive book The Songs of Robert Burns by James C. Dick, published in 1903. The author meticulously sets the historical and social context of Burns' work, and re-connects his lyrics to the melodies that Burns had intended. This CD presents airs and dance tunes that were popular in Scotland during the latter half of the 18th century, many of which inspired the songs of Scotland's most famous poet Robert Burns.
Internationally renowned fiddler Alasdair Fraser and Muriel Johnstone (piano) have been playing Scottish dance music together for years, while Natalie Haas (cello) recently combined with Alasdair on the album Fire and Grace.
