Monthly news summary of all the happenings and up and coming events in the Scottish Traditional Music scene.
Another innovative and entertaining approach to Robert Burns. In 1874, James McKie published in Kilmarnock a limited edition of 600 copies of ‘The Burns Calendar’. The book recalled episodes in the Poet’s history and included names, dates and locations associated with his life and writings. McKie was unable to provide information for each day of the year, but since then much more has become known of Burns, his life and his contemporaries.
This new Burns Calendar recounts one or more events for every day of the year and forms a fine record of the highlights in the life of Scotland’s Bard. There are 75 illustrations included in this 192 page book.
The reader will enjoy the references to many events, including The Drunken Roup at Ellisland, The Storming of the Rosamond, The Parting Songs to Clarinda, The Dumfries Theatre Riot, The Midnight Opening of Burns’ grave.
