A Few Tunes and Mair - Ian and Gordon Duncan : When Gordon Duncan was a member of the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, he and brother Ian released this collection of tunes in 1987, to coincide with the band's first Ballymena Concert. Now, largely due to “The Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust” this excellent book has been re-published after a few year out-of-print. This contains many great Gordon tunes and arrangements - Andy Renwick's Ferret anyone? - many of which featured in the selections of the Vale in those years, as well as in medleys of all the top bands and soloists. Additional tunes have been donated by ex-Vale pipers Gary West, Ross Ainslie, Ali Hutton and Stevie Saint.
“Gordon Duncan, from Pitlochry, Perthshire, was widely regarded as one of the most skilled and innovative traditional performers and composers of modern times. While steeped in the art of traditional highland piping, his approach to his music was always imaginative, fresh and at times radical, to the extent that his influence can be heard within an entire generation of younger musicians across Scotland and well beyond”. (The words of Gary West).
