In 1920 there were a number of officers on the Winnipeg Police Force who played the bagpipes. With the support of Chief Constable C. Newton a small pipe band was formed under the direction of Pipe Major John Coghill. Today's Winnipeg Police Pipe Band has membership including some active Police Officers, some Retired Police Officers and Volunteers who are able to perform to a high standard. Since their formation the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band has electrified and stirred both national and international audiences with their masterful play and clorourfully gallant appearance. Attired in their traditional Royal Stewart tartan, they have performed in cities across North America and at many notable occasions including a number of roayal and foreign dignitary visits including two by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. |
