East Lothian's Tom Clelland is not your typical singer-songwriter, having only decided to embark on a music career at the age of 50. He soon discovered that he not only had a voice but a gift for songwriting. His style is slighlty country, slightly folky, slightly bluesy.
He started his songwriting career, playing at local folk clubs and the Radio Sweethearts Club in Glasgow trying out a few songs and finding they were well received. Francis MacDonald of Teenage Fanclub and Shoeshine Records suggested he try recording some at East Kilbride with Davie Scott. These became "Little Stories" on Shoeshine Records. Tom had to overcome shyness and nerves but with encouragement from friends like Robin Laing, John Miller, Christine Kydd, Billy Stewart and Peter Nardini, he has honed his performance skills and has found himself playing in venues across the country even as far as Austin, Texas. |
