    The Foundry Bar Band

    Bookmark and Share

This well-known band from Arbroath made quite a name for itself with its mixture of ceilidh dance music and great singing from Jim Reid. The Foundry Bar in Arbroath, or 'The Foondry' as the locals call it, has for years been a popular gathering place for musicians and many of the regular session players have taken a turn in the band.

The Foundry Bar in the old fishing town of Arbroath had long been a home to local fiddlers and accordionists when, in 1976, Jim Reid gathered together a few of the regular musicians and headed for the Kinross Festival where they entered and won the Ceilidh Band competition. So was born the Foundry Bar Band. Since then the band has played at concerts and ceilidhs, clubs and festivals, village hall dances and weddings throughout the country, and of course they never missed their favourite traditional music festivals at Keith and Auchtermuchty.

Artistes: Jim Reid: vocals, guitar & mouthorgan; Jim Brown, Harry Scott and Jim Thomson: accordions; Geordie Anderson: fiddle and vocals; Christine Stewart: guitar and vocals and Sandy Beattie: double bass.
