Pipe Major Robert Mathieson, of world champion pipe band Shotts & Dykehead, has charged up the piping world with The Big Birl. Traditional-style tunes (mostly written by Mathieson) are dressed in many colors, including a string quartet, calypso steel drums, piano blues, and electric rock guitar. His "Bells of Dunblane" is rendered gently, in an easy-listening mode. This is an enjoyable and musical tour-de-force.
