Mairi MacArthur has her Gaelic roots in the Isle of Tiree and in mid-Argyll. A singer since childhood and a professional performer for much of her adult life, she first gained widespread recognition when awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the National Mod in 1965.
In the passing years Mairi has performed thoroughout Britain, sometimes in large concert halls, in ornate theatres and sometimes in the village hall. She has travelled to the United States and Canada and performed in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, the Ukraine and the major cities of Russia.
Mairi can also be heard as part of the singing group Bannal a group dedicated to singing traditional Gaelic waulking songs.
During her career Mairi made several recordings, a fine reminder of an exquisite voice.
