    Jim Cameron Scottish Dance Band

    Bookmark and Share

Jim Cameron of Kirriemuir, a famous Scottish Country Dance Band leader and contemporary of Jimmy Shand first broadcast in 1947. Jim first found recording success in 1933 as a solo artiste on the famous Beltona label and, later when he combined with his brothers William, James, George and Stewart to make further recordings as ‘The Cameron Men’.
The Jim Cameron Scottish Dance Band were an immediate hit with the listening and dance public, with their superb swinging sets of tunes for country and old time dancing. They were a family band with Jim and his brother George on violins, daughter May with nephew Scott on accordions and Willie Ogilvie’s subtle use of the trumpet gave this band a unique sound. George Scott on piano  and Henry Webster on drums completed the line-up.  A later lineup saw Bill Powrie, Dod Michie and Nigel Alexander in place of  Scott, Willie and George.
The band became Beltona’s biggest earner rivalling the success of Cameron’s great friend Jimmy Shand on Parlophone. They were a busy and popular band engaged in playing at functions throughout the country, recording and broadcasting regularly up to the mid sixties.
