For fifty years, three generations of choral excellence the Glasgow Orpheus Choir, under its conductor Sir Hugh Roberton, brought real music to millions of people throughout the world. They gave their final performance in Glasgow at St. Andrew's Hall on 11th April 1951. When that choir disbanded in 1951, eighty-three members of the Orpheus who wished to continue as choristers founded the Glasgow Phoenix Choir and thus continued the excellent traditions for which its predecessor was deservedly known. Since then the Phoenix has been at the forefront of choral music in Scotland and beyond.
