Fiona is from Edinburgh. She began playing the harp aged 14 and studied with Sophie Askew, Isobel Mieras and Savourna Stevenson. At 16, she gained a place at 'The City of Edinburgh Music School' where she was part of an inspiring learning environment, with exposure and involvement in a wide range of musical styles. Fiona became increasingly interested in composition work, and has since been earning much recognition as a composer/performer of new music for the Scottish harp, as well as a composer of other instrumental music. Fiona is now a freelance musician and composer. She recently composed music for award-winning feature film 'The Inheritance', and a second feature film 'The Space Between' was released to high acclaim in 2011. Her instrumental compositions have been performed by groups including the London Sinfonietta, Edinburgh Quartet and Mr McFall's Chamber. On the harp, she is an experienced recording artist and has worked with a variety of musicians from traditional fiddler Hugh MacGilp to MC rapper Megan Chapman. Her music has been played on Renosance FM, Radio Scotland and Radio 3's 'Late Junction' and in 2010 she was the winner of The Clarsach Society's Young Composer prize. |
