Bruce MacGregor, hails from Inverness with a driving fiddle style that bridges the gap between East and West Coast, learned from the great PM Donald Riddell. He formed the high-energy Highland fiddle showcase, Blazin' Fiddles, and is also well-known as a composer of great fiddle tunes. He has just released his solo album (101 Reasons to do Nothing) on Macmeanmna records, and is also an award-winning radio producer - his most recent success with a series on James Scott Skinner, "The Strathspey King".
Iain MacFarlane, was born in Glenfinnan, a small village in Lochaber. Whilst being taught the fiddle from his father and also from Donald Riddell, he also started to receive tutelage on the bagpipes from pipe Major Evan MacRae at the age of 10. Since his teens Iain has played in many musical formations and projects such as Gaelic Drama, Contemporary Dance, Radio and Television, while still playing with local "greats" such as Fearchar Macrae, Angus Grant and Fergie MacDonald. Following an HNC in Gaelic Language in 1996, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and Drama with a BA in Traditional Music. Since then he has been teaching at many Feisian, festivals and schools, as well as playing on many albums, and standing in whenever necessary for the great Aly Bain of "Boys of the Lough.
Duncan Chisholm In 1988 Duncan recorded his debut album. Although a 'low key', homespun affair there was enough charm and wisdom displayed to recognise instantly that he's is a fiddler of class and distinction. He was also a player who, given the breaks, could stand the test of time. For those who don't already know, his 'break' came as fiddler, and instrumental frontman with Scotland's premier folk rock outfit Wolfstone. For many years Duncan toured the world spreading the gospel of Wolfstone. However the need to record another album of traditional fiddle music was never far away. Just over a decade after his debut came the release of the sublime 'Redpoint'. An album of ageless beauty, firmly establishing him as one of the most gifted Scottish players. Noted for his beautiful lyrical playing, Duncan played for some time with Blazin Fiddles. |
