    Dougie MacLean

Dougie MacLean is one of the foremost folk musicians and singer/songwriters in Scotland. He grew up, the son of an estate gardener, at Snaigow two miles to the north of Caputh. During the 70's and early 80's Dougie developed his Celtic musical roots as a member of Scotland's leading Celtic bands, the Tannahill Weavers and Silly Wizard. Concentrating on his solo work, he set up his own record label, Dunkeld Records, in 1983 and in that same year released the first of many albums, "Craigie Dhu", to great critical acclaim. Dougie Maclean combines a love and understanding of the Perthshire area with superb musical expression and craftsmanship. Dougie Macleans "Caledonia", probably his most famous song, has been played and sung by many other folk artists throughout the world and was a No 1 hit when covered by Franke Miller in 1992. Dougie was also responsible for the movie soundtrack song 'The Gael' which was used by 20th Century Fox as background music for their film The Last of the Mohicans, based on Fenimore Cooper's book of that name.
