Chrissie MacDonald is from the Island of Barra and has lived there with her family for much of her life.
She is well known as a traditional singer throughout the Gaidhlig speaking parts of the country and generally sings unaccompanied (except when the listener is compelled to join in). That said she is regularly invited to sing for gaels overseas and has appeared at several Pan-Celtic Festivals.
Chrissie has twice entered and won the Scotia Cup (the premier traditional singing competition) at the National Mod, the two occasions being 25 years apart. She also won the Gold Medal. The Scotia trophy is for highest Gaidhlig and music scores and the medal is an overall prize
While she has not released much music in the standard formats (cassette or CD), she has been recorded frequently, usually for use on radio and she features regularly in Radio Nan Gael broadcasts.
Chrissie can also be heard on the Back To Barra CD
