    Catherine-Ann MacPhee

    Bookmark and Share

Catherine-Ann grew up in the village of Eoligarry on the Island of Barra, she sung at ceilidhs and social gatherings from a very young age. Gaelic language enthusiasts revere MacPhee because her pronunciation of the Gaelic is considered a marvel of clarity and beauty. At the age of seventeen she joined a Gaelic theatre group called 'Fir Chlis' (Northern Lights) and travelled and sang with them for three years. She was spotted by John McGrath of the 7.84 Theatre Company and after much persuasion she became one of the company performing with them all over Scotland and in places like Leningrad, Tbilisi, Toronto, Cape Breton, and Berlin.
She has recorded several acclaimed CDs and her latest Suil Air Ais (Looking Back) is available on this website. Catherine-Anne MacPhee now lives in Ottawa, Canada where she teaches Gaelic singing travelling between Toronto, Seattle, North Carolina and Cape Breton.
