    Calluna

Calluna are: Rebecca Knorr (flute, whistles), Anna-Wendy Stevenson (fiddle), Charlotte Petersen (clarsach).

Formed in 1996, Calluna  - the word is the latin name for heather - have delighted many audiences with their beautifully sympathetic ensemble playing and engaging presence.

Rebecca Knorr  is one of Scotland’s most respected players and composers of traditional music. Her compositions have been recorded by the Tannahill Weavers and Tony McManus and she has toured extensively in Europe and the former USSR with many of Scotland and Ireland’s foremost musicians, including Christy O’Leary and Dougie MacLean. With her comprehensive knowledge of different flute styles, she was chosen to create the syllabus for the wooden flute degree course in Scottish music at the RSAMD.  She continues to teach both flute and whistle to children and adults at Feisean, evening classes, workshops and one to one.

Anna-Wendy Stevenson, raised in Edinburgh and surrounded by music from a family steeped in the arts,  has made her name as a highly respected performer and teacher of traditional fiddle. As well as being a long-standing member of Calluna, Anna-Wendy is a founding member of the highly successful trio Fine Friday, which has recorded two CDs "Gone Dancing" and Mowing the Machair" and toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada and Australia, performing at many of the top festivals (The National Festival, Celtic Colours, Celtic Connections, Port Fairy).  A holder of the London College of Music LLCM, ALCM (diplomas in teaching and performance) and renowned for her innovative approach to teaching, Anna-Wendy is principle teacher at Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop and is involved with Feisean nan Gaidheal and other teaching organisations. Her excellent communication skills have lead to extensive work with Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now Organisation, bringing music to people with special needs. In 2005 Anna-Wendy has recording two new albums – "Gowd & Silver" with her grandfather, pianist and composer Ronald Stevenson, featuring his arrangements of the Scots and Gaelic music, and the other - to be released later in the year - with young contemporary pianist James Ross.

Charlotte Petersen is one of Scotland’s most talented composers and arrangers of traditional music for the clarsach. She studied clarsach with Savourna Stevenson before taking her degree in harp performance at the RSAMD. Her fine compositions have delighted audiences from Stornoway to Switzerland and have been recorded by the BBC as soundtracks for several radio plays. Together with harpist Catriona McKay, Charlotte has published the first four in a series of books containing their own arrangements for clarsach, and her current project is a book of her own compositions. Charlotte’s warm stage presence and skilful communication have made her a sought after performer for prestigious events and a very popular teacher both in Scotland and abroad.
