Andy Thorburn has carved out a niche as one of the most skilful, versatile and sought-after pianists on the contemporary Celtic scene. Having worked the circuit from classical to country, jazz to folk, easy listening to rock'n'roll, on both sides of the Atlantic, he has emerged as a respected pianist, composer, musical director and teacher.
A classically trained pianist, Andy has immersed himself in Scottish traditional music for many years, playing keyboards and accordion in a huge variety of bands. Apart from playing with Blazin' Fiddles, he is also currently performing with The Ghillies and Babelfish, as well as writing music for theatre productions, typesetting music books, and acting as an external examiner at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Andy accompanied Paul Anderson on his recent album The Strathbogie Collection, and he is playing on The Peatbog Faeries' forthcoming album. Current regular activities also involve teaching with Feisean nan Gaidheal throughout the Highlands and Islands, and advising the government on music curriculum development in schools
