    Andrew Wright

A devoted student of P/M Peter MacLeod, P/M Donald MacLeod, and P/M R.B. Nicol, Andrew Wright is renowned as one of the world’s foremost performers, teachers and adjudicators of ceol more, the classical music of the Highland Bagpipe.  Now retired from the competition platform, he achieved the rare distinction of winning both the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medals for piobaireachd playing in 1970, at Oban and Inverness.  He was the first winner of Piobaire os Cionn Chiach in 1979/80 (piper abune them a').  He served as Personal Piper to the Lord Provost of Glasgow from 1979/80.  Andrew has coached several of today’s top players to major piobaireachd awards.  He has also had a lengthy pipe band career.  Andrew is currently a senior judge for the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and currently serves as President of the Piobaireachd Society.  He played a major role in the revision of the MacArthur-MacGregor manuscript of piobaireachd (first collected in 1820).  This prestigious publication sheds new light on piobaireachd interpretation.  Andrew has also recorded several CDs of Piobaireachd.
